Bedroom Coloring Pages

A bedroom is the one room that belongs to the person who sleeps in it, and these bedroom coloring pages are full of the small things that make a room feel like someone's: a quilt, a lamp left on, a cat who took the best spot.

Some pages show the whole room. There is a canopy bed with ruffled curtains tied back in bows, a carved four poster bed with a patchwork quilt, a nursery with a crib under a mobile of clouds and stars, an attic bedroom with a lantern and a trapdoor in the floorboards, another attic hung with string lights, and a mattress under a sloping roof with stars in the skylight. A hammock is strung across a corner, a big monstera plant grows beside the bed, and paper cranes fill a net above the pillows.

Others move in close. A bedside table holds a lamp, a glass of water and a pair of hairpins. Mittens and wool socks dry on a radiator under the window. Shelves of teddy bears, bunnies and elephants look down on the room, a teddy sits among scattered building blocks, and a tray of hair bows waits beside a stool. A chest of drawers has folded clothes on top and a laundry basket overflowing beside it. There is breakfast in bed on a tray of toast and tea, a blanket fort pegged between two chairs, a reading corner with a beanbag and a floor lamp, and a telescope in a bay window under the moon.

The seasons come in through the windows: spring curtains blowing beside a vase of tulips, autumn leaves behind a chunky knit blanket, frost ferns on the glass above a hot water bottle. Pets and people bring the rooms to life, with a puppy asleep in a basket, a cat stretched out on the duvet, a boy pulling on his socks at sunrise and two children in pajamas having a pillow fight among the feathers. Draw the room you want

A bedroom page is an invitation to design. Before coloring, a child can decide what their dream room looks like: which color the walls are, what pattern goes on the quilt, what is on the shelves. The patchwork quilt and the canopy bed are the best pages for this, because every square and every fold can be different. Older children like the four poster and the attic rooms, where there is space for wallpaper patterns drawn in by hand.

It also works the other way round. Ask a child to color the page to look like their own room, then to find the differences with the drawing: the lamp is on the other side, there is no hammock, the cat is real. It is a quiet game that ends with a very accurate picture of home.

Colors that feel cozy

A room looks warm when its colors agree with each other. A few ideas that work on any page here:

• Choose a palette of three. One main color for the walls, one for the bed, one for the small things. Soft blue, cream and mustard yellow; sage green, white and terracotta; lilac, gray and pink.
• Wood is not one brown. Floorboards, bed frames and drawers look real in two or three browns side by side, lighter where the light falls.
• Light the lamps. Leave a small white or pale yellow circle around a lamp, a string light or the moon, and color outward from it a little darker. The room seems to glow.
• Windows show the season. Blue sky for spring, orange and red leaves for autumn, a dark blue night with a yellow moon.

Easy corners and busy rooms

The simplest pages keep to one object or one corner, like the cat on the duvet and the radiator with mittens. Quick to color, above the grid, begins with:

The detailed pages fill the room with wood grain, patterns, feathers and stuffed animals. Lots of detail begins with:

A bedtime page

A bedroom page makes a calm activity for the last half hour before sleep, when screens are best put away. Pick a page that matches the evening, the telescope on a clear night, the frosty window when it is cold outside, the pillow fight when there is still energy to burn off. Coloring slowly with pencils rather than markers helps the wind-down, and the finished page can go on the wall above the bed it shows.

Every page is a free A4 PDF drawn at 300 dpi. A4 prints at full size, and on US Letter "fit to page" shrinks the drawing by about six percent so the whole room stays on the paper.
