Pikachu Coloring Pages

Pikachu is the easiest character in the world to recognise and the easiest to draw badly. Two circles for cheeks, pointed ears with black tips, and a tail that is a lightning bolt. Get the tail wrong and it stops being Pikachu, whatever the rest of the page looks like.

What makes a Pikachu coloring page work

A Pikachu coloring page lives or dies on four marks, and everything else is free. Get the lightning-bolt tail, the black ear tips, the round cheeks and the brown back stripes in the right places and the drawing reads instantly, even half filled. Miss the tail and no amount of yellow saves it.

The cheeks are the whole trick

Everything else on the page can be any colour. The two round cheeks stay red, the ear tips and the tail base stay black, and the body is one flat yellow. That is the entire palette, and it is why these sheets suit a child who owns twelve crayons as well as an adult with seventy-two.

Where a page has room, the interest is in the setting rather than the character: the wave, the confetti, the field of flowers, the rain. Colour those freely, keep the four fixed marks, and the drawing still reads at a glance.
