These sheets are built for the age that actually watches the programme. The figures are large, the outlines are thick, and almost every page is one scene a three-year-old can name out loud: the slide, the beach, the bikes, the trampoline, tea at the little table.
What is on the thirty-six sheets
- The whole family together, five times: in the garden, in a field of daisies, in front of the house, waving in the living room and squeezed into a hammock.
- The puppies on their own: sliding, riding bikes past the traffic cones, building sandcastles, bouncing on the trampoline, playing king on a wooden throne.
- Days out: the market stall under its striped awning, the van on a country road, the Gnome Garden with four garden gnomes among the flowers, a pool slide behind a fence of palms.
- Quiet ones: a puppy on the playroom floor with a soft toy, a baby in a bouncer with its rattle and bottle, a grown-up at the desk with a tablet and a mug, two dogs side by side on a park bench.
- One sheet with nothing written in it: two puppies standing under empty thought bubbles, for a child who wants to draw or write what they are thinking.
Two blues and one orange
The heelers are blue-grey with darker patches, a cream chest and cream paws; the smaller one is orange-brown with cream markings in the same places. Set those two down and the whole page follows: the rest is sky, grass, sand and wood, which a child can take anywhere.
Because the palette is so short, these sheets work with the twelve pencils in a school tin. Nothing here needs a colour a child does not already own.
Easy sheets and busy ones
The single figures are the quickest: the puppy on the slide, the one with the toy unicorn, the baby in the bouncer, the surfer on the wave. One character, a plain background, done before the patience runs out.
The market stall, the long table and the family scenes are the ones to keep for a rainy afternoon: five or six figures, a background with real detail, and enough small shapes to fill an hour.
