Sports Coloring Pages

A sports sheet is usually a ball on an empty page, or a crest nobody can color without looking it up. These free printable sports coloring pages are drawn as scenes instead: a player mid-catch, a coach with a play board, a locker with the kit hanging in it, a mascot in front of a packed stand. The game is what a child wants, and the game has people in it.

Choosing a sport

Each collection below has its own page, the biggest first. New sports join the drawer as their sheets are drawn.

• Soccer Coloring Pages: The whole game on paper: the save, the header, the dugout, the groundsman, and the backyard goal where it all starts.
• Baseball Coloring Pages: Batters, pitchers and catchers, a home run over the fence, the stands, the bullpen and the backyard game of catch.

Why the kit is worth its own sheets

Children who play a sport notice the equipment before anything else, and it colors well: a helmet seen face on with every bar of the face mask drawn in, shoulder pads laid out on a bench, a trolley of gloves and helmets, a locker with a jersey hanging above lined-up boots. Those sheets also suit the child who likes the sport without wanting to draw a crowd.

Colors, and the one decision to make first

Team colors are the whole question with a sports sheet, and the drawings leave them open on purpose. Nothing here carries a name, a number or a logo, so a child picks their own team and keeps the same two colors across every sheet they print. A set colored that way hangs together on a wall; a set colored at random does not.

• Two colors per team, no more. Jersey, helmet and socks in the same pair.
• Grass in two greens, with the mown stripes running across the page.
• Leave the white lines as bare paper. Never color over them.
• Crowds stay pale. A packed stand colored in strong color swallows the players in front of it.

Why team colors are worth getting right

A sports sheet has no logo and no name on it, which leaves the colors doing all the work, and children know this better than adults do.

Most clubs use two colors and no more, and the pairing is usually high-contrast so it reads from the back of a stand: dark and light, or two colors far apart on the color wheel. That is why so many kits are navy and white, black and gold, red and white. A kit colored in two similar shades looks wrong even to someone who could not say why.

The away kit exists for the same reason. When two clubs' colors are close enough to confuse at speed, one changes, and that is a rule rather than a preference. It makes a good second use of these sheets: color the same page twice, once in home colors and once in an away set, and pin them together.

Stripes, hoops and halves are the traditional ways of combining two colors, and each behaves differently on the page. Vertical stripes need to be even or the shirt looks crumpled. Hoops are more forgiving. A halved shirt is the fastest to color and the hardest to get straight.

For the field itself: the mown stripes run across the pitch, not along it, and they are the same green in two directions rather than two different greens.

Printing for a team or a party

Print three or four different sheets rather than one repeated, and take them from both ends of the difficulty range: a fast one for the youngest at the table, a busy arena or stadium scene for anyone who finishes early.
