Autumn is the one season where the coloring is the point. Every leaf on the page can take a different combination of red, orange and yellow, and none of them will look wrong. It is the least stressful category on the site, and these 24 free printable fall coloring pages lean into that.
What is in the fall set
- Leaves and acorns, scattered across a full page, the closest thing here to an adult pattern sheet.
- Animals in scarves: a bear among pumpkins, a fox by a tree, two fox cubs in a leaf pile, an owl on a branch under the moon.
- Scarecrows, in a cornfield and in a pumpkin patch, crows included.
- Pumpkins in transport: a pickup truck loaded with them, a bicycle with a full basket, a farm stand with a tractor behind it.
- Harvest food: an apple pie with a lattice crust, a cornucopia, baskets of apples.
- The woods: mushrooms with polka dots, a basket of mushrooms with a snail, a spider web strung between branches.
- Cosy indoor scenes: a fireplace with candles and cider, a stack of books with a mug and a scarf.
- Children outside: jumping into a leaf pile, raking the yard, roasting marshmallows over a campfire.
Pumpkins here, jack-o'-lanterns next door
Eight of the twenty-four sheets have pumpkins in them, and none of them is carved. They sit in baskets, on doorsteps and among the leaves, which is what people want in September and early October, before the party.
The carved ones live in Halloween. Splitting them that way means a September classroom display does not come out covered in grinning faces, and an October party does not come out covered in gourds.
Sixteen sheets carry leaves in some form, four have mushrooms and four a hedgehog. That is the autumn coloring sheet as most people mean it: the season rather than the holiday.
The pattern sheets and the scene sheets
Half the set is a scene with a subject in the middle: the bear, the truck, the farm stand. The other half is filled edge to edge with leaves, mushrooms or acorns and has no focal point at all. Those are the ones adults take, and they run past an hour.
What color order works on an autumn leaf
Yellow across the whole leaf first, then orange from the edges inwards, then a little red at the tips only. Working light to dark on the same leaf gives the blend without needing to blend anything, which is the trick most children have not been shown yet.
On a full page of scattered leaves, pick three colors and repeat them deliberately rather than giving every leaf its own. The page reads as designed instead of as a bag of sweets.
When the fall pages get printed
From the third week of September, peaking through October. This category overlaps heavily with Halloween coloring pages and Thanksgiving coloring pages, and all three link to each other so you can move sideways rather than back. The nature drawer covers the trees and the woods the rest of the year.
Every file is a free 300 dpi PDF sized for A4 and safe on US Letter, with no account and no watermark.
Fall Coloring Pages: questions
Which fall coloring pages are best for adults?
The full-page leaf and acorn sheet, the mushroom pages and the spider web. They are filled edge to edge with no focal point, which is exactly what makes a page absorbing rather than quick.
What color order works for an autumn leaf?
Yellow across the whole leaf, then orange from the edges inwards, then a little red at the tips. Working light to dark on the same leaf gives the blend without needing to blend anything.
When does this category get busy?
From the third week of September, peaking through October. It overlaps heavily with Halloween and Thanksgiving, and the three link to each other.
Are there fall animals?
Yes: a bear in a scarf, a fox by a tree, two fox cubs in a leaf pile, an owl on a branch and a snail on a mushroom basket. They are the sheets that get printed for younger children.
Can I print these for a classroom display?
Yes, in any quantity. The scarecrow, the pumpkin truck and the farm stand read from across a room, which is what a display needs.
Do you have pumpkins here or under Halloween?
Both. The uncarved pumpkins, the patch, the truck and the farm stand sit here; the carved jack-o'-lanterns are in Halloween coloring pages.
Are there autumn coloring sheets without Halloween in them?
All twenty-four of them. Nothing in this drawer is spooky: leaves, mushrooms, hedgehogs, baskets and sweaters. The costumes are one click away in Halloween.
How many pumpkin coloring pages are here?
Eight, all uncarved: in baskets, on doorsteps, among the leaves. The carved jack-o'-lanterns are Halloween's business.
