A cat is one of the best animals to put on a coloring page, because almost all of it is a single continuous curve. A young child can follow the outline without lifting the crayon, and the shape still reads as a cat when the color goes over the edge. These 36 free printable cat coloring pages put that shape somewhere: on the windowsill, in the box, on the warm chair by the fire.
What is in this set
- Cats asleep: curled in a basket, nestled in a patchwork quilt, on a bed under stars, stretched across a stack of books.
- Kitten coloring pages: five of them, with a ball of yarn, in a clawfoot bathtub full of bubbles, beside a food bowl, chasing a toy feather, sitting in a decorated box.
- Cats at the window: one watching the rain with a book and a crayon beside it, one with a potted plant and a scarf, one wrapped in a striped blanket with a mug.
- Cats with a job: a chef baking a heart-shaped cake, a cat at the piano with the music floating above, a cat in a top hat reading the newspaper.
- Cats outdoors: on a rooftop, in a boat on a pond, chasing butterflies through flowers, a Maine Coon along a tree branch, a black cat among the roses.
- The odd ones: an astronaut floating in space, a princess on a cushion, a whole island of cats with houses and a compass, a cat mandala built from hearts.
Every sheet has somewhere to be
There is no sheet here of a cat alone on white paper. That is deliberate: a cat outline on its own is finished in four minutes and thrown away in five. Put the same cat on a windowsill with the rain outside, a book on the sill and a basket underneath, and the page holds a child for half an hour.
It also gives the color somewhere to go. Eight sheets carry a blanket, a cushion, a quilt or a basket, which are the parts that take pattern well, and seven put books in the frame, which take a different color each.
Coat patterns are drawn as separate areas
Stripes and patches are outlined rather than shaded, so a striped cat, a black and white cat and a plain one each color differently without needing any technique. Fill the markings first and work the base coat around them.
Nothing here is filled in for you, black cats included. The black cat among the roses is an outline like every other sheet, which is what you want: half the children who print it will make it ginger.
What to do with the finished pages
Cat sheets cut out well for cards and garlands on 160 gsm card stock, and the sleeping ones make good bookmarks cut long. Anything with a window or a lamp in it works with the trick from the cozy set: pick one warm color for the light, use it on everything the lamp touches, and keep the rest cool.
Everything here is a free printable PDF at 300 dpi, sized for A4 and safe on US Letter. No sign-up, no email, no watermark. The rest of the catalogue is in the full list of categories.
Cat Coloring Pages: questions
How many cat coloring pages are there?
Thirty-six, all free, all A4 at 300 dpi. Every one is a scene rather than a cat floating on empty paper.
Are there kitten coloring pages as well as cats?
Five sheets are kittens: with a ball of yarn, in a bubble bath, beside a food bowl, with a toy feather, and one sitting in a decorated box. They carry fewer internal lines than the adult cats, so they finish faster.
Which cat coloring pages suit a toddler?
The sleeping cat in a basket, the fluffy cat on a cushion and the kitten with the ball of yarn. One big shape, a thick closed outline, and a background simple enough to skip entirely.
Which ones take the longest?
The cat island with its houses and compass, the group of cats among the boxes and tunnels, and the cat asleep on a stack of books. Each carries twenty or more separate areas.
Is there a black cat coloring page?
One, sitting in a garden with roses and a butterfly, plus a black and white cat with two balls of yarn. Both are drawn as outlines, so nothing is filled in for you and a black cat can be colored any color a child likes.
Do you have a cat mandala?
One sheet, built from heart shapes and smiling faces rather than the usual geometry. It is the closest thing here to an adult page.
What colors should a tabby cat be?
Brown tabbies run from sandy to dark chocolate with a lighter chin and belly, and the stripes always sit darker than the base coat. Grey tabbies swap that for slate over silver. Color the stripes first and fill around them.
Can I print these for a school or a library?
Freely, and no attribution is needed. Classroom, daycare, library and hospital use are all covered by the license.
