PJ Masks Coloring Pages

By day they are three ordinary children; at bedtime they put on their pajamas and become heroes. These PJ Masks coloring pages follow Catboy, Owlette and Gekko through their night missions across the sleeping city, with far more rescues than battles.

Each hero has pages of their own. Catboy crouches on a rooftop in front of the full moon, drives the Cat-Car down an empty street, balances on a washing line between two balconies, chases a ball of yarn down a spiral staircase, leaps over a park fountain, tiptoes past sleeping pigeons, climbs a pole to free a kite and peers through a round window into a museum of statues. Owlette glides between the chimneys, perches on a streetlamp, flies over a park lake, carries a basket of apples above the town, dives through a ring of clouds, helps a little bird back into its nest, shields a puppy under her wing in the rain and lands on a rooster weather vane. Gekko clings upside down to a brick wall, lifts a crate off a kitten, swims underwater among the reeds, blends into a mossy wall, pushes a delivery bike up a hill, lifts a manhole cover over his head, stands on a pile of crates and tests the ice on a frozen pond.

The team pages show them together: gathered under a streetlamp on wet cobbles, sharing cocoa on a rooftop under the moon, climbing in a playground, skateboarding between traffic cones, racing along a beach at night, working the levers of their control room and kneeling around a rescued hedgehog in a cardboard box. A big owl lands on a roof, a chibi trio sits in a row, and a pattern page fills the sheet with cat, owl and gecko masks and crescent moons.

Three children, three animal powers

PJ Masks began as a series of French picture books, Les Pyjamasques, by Romuald Racioppo, first published in 2007. The animated series followed in 2015. Each hero takes the power of an animal:

• Catboy (Connor) has cat speed, super cat hearing and a super cat jump.
• Owlette (Amaya) can fly, see far with her owl eyes and create a strong wind with her wings.
• Gekko (Greg) is super strong, can climb walls like a gecko and can turn himself the color of what is around him, which is exactly what one of these pages shows.

Each episode ends with the same line, "PJ Masks all shout hooray, 'cause in the night we saved the day!", and the heroes then go back to bed so they can be at school the next morning.

Why the heroes go out at night

The whole idea of PJ Masks is that heroes can be small. Connor, Amaya and Greg are six-year-old classmates, and most episodes start with a problem at school or at home in the daytime: a lost toy, a museum exhibit gone missing, an argument between friends. At night they find out what happened and set it right, and the lesson usually has less to do with power than with patience, teamwork or owning up to a mistake. The villains are other children too, like Romeo with his lab on wheels and Luna Girl with her moth friends, and they are more mischievous than frightening. That is why the pages here lean toward rescues and help: a kitten under a crate, a bird back in its nest, a puppy out of the rain.

The heroes' colors

The show is very consistent with color, so each hero is easy to get right:

• Catboy: dark blue with a lighter blue cat emblem, a blue mask with ears, and a long tail.
• Owlette: red with pink, a red owl mask with feathered edges, and a cape that becomes wings.
• Gekko: green with lighter green scales, a green mask with a crest, and a thick tail.

The night sky behind them is usually deep blue, with a big pale moon. Leave the moon white or pale yellow and it lights up the whole page.

Easy heroes and busy cities

The simplest pages keep one hero large with little around them, like the race on the beach and Gekko on the wall. Quick to color, above the grid, begins with:

• Racing on the beach
• Gekko on the wall

The detailed ones are full of bricks, chimneys and crates. Lots of detail begins with:

• Gekko's crate bridge
• Owlette over the chimneys
• Catboy on the washing line

A bedtime mission

These pages fit the bedtime routine the show is built around. Pick a page as the "mission" of the evening, color it after bath and pajamas, and tell the story of what the hero is doing: who needs help, how they get there, how they save the day. The page goes on the wall above the bed, and the next evening brings a new mission. The rooftop cocoa page is a perfect last one, the three heroes resting before going to sleep.

Printing a night mission

Every page is a free A4 PDF drawn at 300 dpi. A4 prints at full size, and on US Letter "fit to page" shrinks the drawing by about six percent so every mask and tail stays on the paper.
