Ninjago Coloring Pages

Every Ninjago fan knows which ninja is theirs before they pick up a pencil. These Ninjago coloring pages give each of them their element, so the choice of colors is already half made: fire for Kai, lightning for Jay, earth for Cole, ice for Zane, water for Nya and the green energy of Lloyd.

The element pages come first. Kai crouches on a rooftop with flames rising from his fists, Jay stands in front of a giant lightning bolt with sparks at his fingertips, Cole holds a boulder above his head, Zane stands in a storm of snowflakes, Nya rides a water dragon over a curling wave, and a ninja spins at the heart of a Spinjitzu tornado. The dragons get plenty of room: a winged dragon carries a ninja over snowy peaks, a fire dragon flies through the clouds, and Lloyd hugs a friendly baby dragon in a cave. Training takes up many of the other pages: Cole kicks a wooden dummy, Lloyd bows in the dojo under a paper lantern, Nya balances on a bamboo pole over a lily pond, one ninja flips over a training wheel, another stands on one leg on a tall post, another does a one-handed handstand, and Master Wu teaches Lloyd with a bamboo staff. Master Wu also sips his tea in the temple, Zane meditates under a cherry tree, and Jay tinkers with a little propeller flying machine. There is action too, with two ninjas racing motorcycles along a mountain road, a ninja climbing a pagoda, another riding a board across the ice and Nya rowing down a river.

The holidays are covered. Lloyd carves a jack o'lantern with his sword and goes trick-or-treating in a witch hat, a ninja puts the star on the Christmas tree and another carries a present in a Santa hat, and there are pages with an Easter basket, a heart balloon and a birthday cake. A few pages draw the ninja as young kids rather than as minifigures, cooking noodles, crossing a rope bridge, climbing a crumbling cliff, leaping across stepping stones or standing on a flying ship under the stars.

Which ninja has which element?

Ninjago started in 2011 as a LEGO theme and a television series, and it has kept going through many seasons since. Each ninja masters one element, and their suits usually match it:

• Lloyd, the Green Ninja, masters energy and is the son of Garmadon.
• Kai masters fire and wears red.
• Jay masters lightning and wears blue. He is also the team's inventor.
• Cole masters earth and wears black.
• Zane masters ice and wears white. He is a Nindroid, a robot ninja.
• Nya, Kai's sister, masters water and wears dark red or blue.
• Master Wu is their wise, bearded teacher, with his straw hat and his tea.

Spinjitzu, the spinning move that turns a ninja into a small tornado, is the skill that every one of them learns.

Coloring the suits right

Real Ninjago suits have a main color, a darker trim and small gold or silver details. Try:

• Red and orange for Kai, with yellow flames.
• Blue for Jay, with bright yellow lightning.
• Black and gray for Cole, with brown and tan rocks.
• White and light blue for Zane, with silver trim and pale blue snowflakes.
• Green and gold for Lloyd, the colors of the Green Ninja.

Minifigure hands and faces are traditionally yellow, which is a good way to make a page look like the toys. The dragons are free for any color, though fans often match them to their rider's element.

Simple minifigures and busy scenes

The simplest pages show one ninja, drawn large, with little around them, which suits a young fan. Quick to color, above the grid, begins with:

• Boulder lift

The detailed pages are full of temple roofs, cherry blossoms, curling waves and mountain roads. Lots of detail begins with:

• Pagoda climb
• Christmas tree
• Flying machine

A Ninjago party activity

Ninjago pages work well at a birthday party: print one element page per guest, let each child choose their ninja, then hang the finished pages together as a team poster. A dojo game fits right after: balance on one leg like Nya on her bamboo pole, bow like Lloyd, and try a (careful) Spinjitzu spin.

Printing

Every page is a free A4 PDF drawn at 300 dpi. A4 prints at full size, and on US Letter "fit to page" shrinks the drawing by about six percent so nothing is cut off.
