CoComelon Coloring Pages

Most coloring pages are drawn for a child who can already color. These are not. Nearly two thirds of these CoComelon coloring pages sit in the quick band, which is the highest share of any collection on the site: one big figure, two or three objects, and almost nothing in the background. That is deliberate, because the child asking for them is two or three, holds a fat crayon in a fist, and loses interest the moment a page looks like work.

What is on them is JJ, the baby with the single curl on top of his head, going through the ordinary day a toddler recognizes. Getting up and getting clean: the bath with a rubber duck, a toothbrush taller than an arm, washing hands on a step stool, pajamas and a pillow carried to bed. Eating: the high chair with a bowl and spoon, an ice cream cone, an apple dropped into a shopping basket, a paper crown at the table. Going out: waving from the school bus window, the bus drawn from the front, a tricycle, a swing, the slide, a wagon pulled along a path, a stroller. Playing and helping: stacking blocks, drawing with an oversized crayon, pushing a toy lawn mower, brushing a big dog, feeding a duck, planting a seedling, a dinosaur costume, a firefighter helmet. And the people: a family of four holding hands, baking with a grandmother, football with dad, a candle on a birthday cake.

The sheets to hand a two year old

Quick to color above the grid is the main door to this collection, not a side option. It keeps the twenty two simplest, and they are simple in the way that matters at this age: the shapes are large enough that a crayon held in a fist still lands inside them.

Start with one of those, and keep the rest of the set for the months after. A child who can color the bus at two will want the shopping basket at four, and it will still be here.

Colors, and letting go of them

The useful advice at this age is mostly about what not to do.

• Let them choose. A purple dog is a good dog. Correcting a two year old on the color of a duck is the fastest way to end the session.
• Thick crayons beat pencils. Every area on these sheets is wide enough for one, and a crayon does not need pressure, which spares both the paper and the temper.
• One or two colors is a finished page. A toddler who fills the ball and the cake and leaves the rest white has done the whole thing, as far as they are concerned.
• Print on thicker paper if you have it. 120 gsm takes the pressing and the going over twice that a small hand does, and it does not tear when a wet crayon drags.
• Tape the corners to the table. A sheet that slides away is the single most common reason a small child gives up.

The two busy ones

Only two sheets in this set are really busy: the shopping basket among the shelves of apples, and the firefighter in front of the truck. They are here for the older sibling who wants to sit at the same table without being handed something babyish.

A first coloring session

If this is one of the first times, a few things help more than the choice of page. Sit next to them rather than opposite, so the sheet is the right way up for both of you. Put out three crayons rather than the whole box. Expect the first pass to be a scribble across the middle and say nothing about it: the point at this age is the holding and the pressing, not the staying inside. And print two copies of the same page, because a toddler who ruins one and has another is a toddler who keeps going. When the songs turn to the alphabet, the letter coloring pages are drawn at the same weight, one big letter and a few objects per page.

Built for the youngest hands on the site

This is one of the simplest collections here, and every choice in it is aimed at children who are two and three.

Everything is rounded. No corners anywhere, on characters, furniture or backgrounds. Outlines are thick and even, which matters because a crayon dragged over a thin line erases it. Areas are large and few. A page might have eight things to color rather than eighty.

That makes these the right pages for a child's very first attempts, and it changes what success looks like. At this age the aim is not staying inside the line but making a mark on purpose and stopping. A page half-covered in one color is a completed page.

Two things that help. Fat crayons, not pencils. Small hands cannot grip a thin barrel and will give up. And one sheet at a time, taped down at the corners, because an unsecured page slides and the child ends up chasing it.

The subjects are deliberately ordinary: baths, bedtime, mealtimes, vehicles, animals. That is the point. A two-year-old recognizes the thing on the page, and recognition is what makes them want to color it.
