Who is Winnie the Pooh?
Pooh was created by the English writer A. A. Milne, who published Winnie-the-Pooh in 1926, with drawings by E. H. Shepard. The stories were inspired by the stuffed animals of Milne's son, Christopher Robin, and by the Ashdown Forest in England, which became the Hundred Acre Wood.
The name comes from a real bear: Winnipeg, a black bear at the London Zoo that young Christopher Robin loved to visit. Disney began making Winnie the Pooh films in 1966, and gave Pooh the red shirt most children know today.
Christopher Robin walks across a bridge with Pooh in a quiet scene straight from the books.
The real toys still exist. Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga and Tigger, the stuffed animals that belonged to Christopher Robin Milne, are kept at the New York Public Library, where visitors can see them in a glass case. Roo was lost in an orchard in the 1930s, and Owl and Rabbit were invented by Milne for the stories.
Winnie the Pooh Bear and his honey pots
Pooh appears on most of the sheets, and nearly always near honey. He tips a honey pot over his head, hugs a dripping pot with both arms (the bees are waiting in the bug coloring pages), and floats under a balloon toward a beehive high in an oak, his famous plan to steal honey from the bees by pretending to be a little black rain cloud.
He also gets stuck, as he does in the stories: one scene puts him at the round door of Rabbit's burrow, where he ate so much he could not get out. Elsewhere he knocks at a door in a tree, stretches on a stump at sunrise and naps in a hammock between two birches.
For more bears, the bear coloring pages and the teddy-style kawaii coloring pages are a soft next step.
Pooh's colors
- Fur: warm golden yellow, a little darker on the ears and sides.
- Shirt: a short red shirt that never quite covers his tummy.
- Nose and eyes: dark brown or black.
- Honey pot: light brown or tan, with orange-gold honey dripping over the edge.
Piglet, Tigger and Eeyore coloring pages
Piglet is Pooh's very small and very brave best friend. Color him pale pink with a pink and magenta striped shirt. He carries a flower almost as tall as himself, sweeps a huge pile of autumn leaves (a good page next to the fall coloring pages), and walks across the ice with Pooh, leaving little paw prints behind them, a sweet sheet for the winter coloring pages.
Tigger is the bounciest tiger in the wood. He is orange with black stripes, a cream belly and a long springy tail. He bounces over a stone bridge, holds an umbrella over Piglet in the rain and hops beside Rabbit's wheelbarrow. Big cat fans can keep going with the tiger coloring pages.
Eeyore, the gloomy old donkey, is gray with a black mane and a pink bow on the end of his detachable tail. He stands by his house of sticks, floats on his back down the stream, and wears a cozy knitted scarf.
Rabbit, Owl and Roo in the Winnie the Pooh pages
Rabbit is the busy gardener of the Hundred Acre Wood. He waters his carrot patch and sorts his vegetables into baskets in his burrow, so these pages go well with the bunny coloring pages and the vegetable-filled farm coloring pages.
Owl thinks he knows everything. He perches by the door of his tree house and holds up a picture of Piglet, Rabbit and Tigger. Kids who like him can visit the owl coloring pages. Little Roo, Kanga's joey, splashes in a wooden tub.
Poohsticks
In The House at Pooh Corner (1928), Pooh invents a game: each friend drops a stick off the upstream side of a bridge, then everyone runs to the other side to see whose stick comes out first. Pooh, Piglet, Rabbit and Eeyore play it together on a little wooden bridge. The game is still played every year in England, at the World Poohsticks Championships.
Winnie the Pooh Christmas and Halloween pages
Pooh celebrates every holiday. He sits beside a jack o'lantern and goes trick or treating in a witch hat for the Halloween coloring pages. In December he wears a Santa hat with a present and puts the star on top of a Christmas tree, alongside the Christmas coloring pages. A snowman with round bear ears joins the snowman coloring pages.
In spring he carries a basket of decorated eggs for the Easter coloring pages, and he holds a heart balloon in February. Pooh also dips a finger into his birthday cake, a perfect first birthday card.
Easy Winnie the Pooh coloring pages for toddlers
Pooh's round body and plain backgrounds make this one of the gentlest collections for very young children. Quick to color lines up the roundest, plainest Pooh pages:
- Pooh Hugging a Honey Pot
- Pooh Holding a Star Under His Name
- Snowman with Bear Ears
Eeyore's stick house, Rabbit's baskets and the Easter eggs have many more little spaces. Lots of detail gathers those Hundred Acre Wood scenes:
- Eeyore by His Stick House
- Rabbit Sorting Vegetables
- Pooh with an Easter Basket
A Hundred Acre Wood picnic
- Print the honey pot picnic page, Pooh with his honey pot and a page for each friend.
- Put out yellow, red, pink, orange, gray and brown.
- Serve honey on toast or little cakes, as Pooh would.
- Finish with a real game of Poohsticks if there is a stream or a gutter nearby.
