Eevee Coloring Pages

Eevee is a small brown creature with an oversized cream ruff and a bushy tail, and it is drawn wrong more often than almost any other Pokemon. The mistake is always the same: the ears get long and rounded and the whole thing turns into a rabbit. Eevee's ears are large, pointed and set wide, the ruff is a separate mass that hides the neck entirely, and the tail is as thick as the body.

What is in this set

The eight evolutions are the point

Most Eevee coloring pages online show the same thing: Eevee sitting on white, facing forward, smiling. That page has been drawn a thousand times, and a child who prints it fills it in four minutes.

The evolutions are what make a set worth keeping. Each one carries a different shape and a different surface, so the sheets do not fill the same way: Jolteon is all spikes and sharp edges, Vaporeon is smooth with a wide collar, Sylveon has ribbons that wander across the page, Umbreon has rings that want a second colour. Eight sheets, eight different jobs, and no two of them look like each other.

How much work each sheet is

Counted properly, by the number of closed areas the drawing contains, the range here is wide. The lightest sheets hold sixteen areas, Eevee peeking out from under a tablecloth or shaking off in a puddle, and a four-year-old finishes one in a sitting. The middle of the set sits around forty-five. The heaviest holds a hundred and forty-seven, the field of daisies, where every flower is its own shape, followed closely by the kitchen with the picnic hamper and by Sylveon's flowered arch.

So the same set serves a child with six crayons and an adult who wants an hour with a fine liner, and the choice is made by looking at the page rather than by reading a label.

Colouring Eevee without a reference

Eevee is nearly a two-colour animal. The body is a mid brown, the ruff and the tail tip a pale cream, and that is the whole character. Everything else on the page, the leaves, the snow, the kitchen, the pond, is free.

The evolutions each swap the brown for one colour and keep the same structure: blue for Vaporeon, yellow for Jolteon, red-orange for Flareon, lilac for Espeon, black with yellow rings for Umbreon, cream and green for Leafeon, pale blue for Glaceon, pink and white for Sylveon. Which means a child who has coloured one page already knows how to colour the next seven.
