The Avengers, from 1963 comics to Endgame
The Avengers are a team of Marvel superheroes who first appeared in The Avengers #1 comic book in 1963, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. In the comics the founding members were Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Ant-Man and the Wasp; Captain America joined soon after.
Most kids know them from the movies. The Avengers (2012) brought together the six heroes kids still name first. The films that followed, up to Avengers: Endgame (2019), added Spider-Man, Doctor Strange and many more.
Their base is Avengers Tower in New York, which is why so many of these pages put the heroes on rooftops, fire escapes and city streets.
Iron Man coloring pages
Iron Man is Tony Stark, an inventor who builds his own armored suit. He appears on more sheets than anyone else here: flying past the clouds with his hand raised, standing in his lab next to an empty suit, in a close portrait of his helmet, and on every AVENGERS title page.
His armor is a good challenge for older kids, because it is made of many small plates. ### Iron Man's red and gold
The classic colors are easy to remember:
- Red for most of the armor.
- Gold or yellow for the faceplate, arms and legs.
- Light blue or white for the round arc reactor in his chest and the glow in his palms.
A trick for the arc reactor: leave a white ring in the middle and color only the outer circle in light blue. It looks like it is glowing.
Captain America, Thor and Hulk coloring pages
Captain America is Steve Rogers, a soldier from the Second World War. His round shield is his trademark: a white star in the middle, then rings of blue, red, white and red. On his own page he stands with the shield at his side, and he also teams up with Iron Man on a rooftop and in a hangar.
Thor, the god of thunder from Asgard, raises his hammer Mjolnir under a cloudy sky. Another page shows Mjolnir alone, resting on a stone in a grassy field, a quick sheet for younger kids. Thor's colors are a red cape, a silver and dark blue armor and long blond hair.
Hulk sits on a big boulder next to a tree, grinning. He is Bruce Banner when he is calm, and he turns into a huge green giant when he gets angry. Green skin, black hair and purple torn shorts are all a child needs.
For more strong heroes in capes and masks, the superhero coloring pages mix all kinds of costumed characters.
Black Widow Avengers pages, with Hawkeye and Captain Marvel
Black Widow is Natasha Romanoff, a spy with a black suit and red hair. She climbs over a fire escape railing in one scene and trains with Captain America in a gym full of punching bags in another.
Hawkeye, Clint Barton, draws his bow on a rooftop with an arrow ready to fly. Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers, stands on the deck of a big ship with her hands on her hips: color her suit red and blue with a gold star on the chest.
These pages pair well with the Wonder Woman coloring pages for kids who want more heroines to color.
Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Rocket and Groot
Several heroes from later films join the collection. Spider-Man swings on his web between skyscrapers, and the Spider-Man coloring pages have many more of his adventures.
Doctor Strange opens a sparkling magic portal with his red cloak flying. Vision, the android with the yellow gem on his forehead, sits cross-legged in meditation. Ant-Man stands on a leaf beside a beetle, which shows how tiny he can shrink.
Rocket Raccoon and baby Groot sit together on a crate, a favorite with younger kids. They come from the Guardians of the Galaxy, who fight alongside the Avengers in Avengers: Infinity War. Kids who like Rocket can head to the animal coloring pages for more furry friends.
Iron Man for Halloween, Christmas and every holiday
Iron Man celebrates the holidays too. He carves a jack o'lantern beside a hay bale and collects candy in a pointy witch hat, ready for the Halloween coloring pages stack. The pumpkin scene also fits the pumpkin coloring pages.
In December he wears a Santa hat and carries a present, puts the star on top of a Christmas tree and stands next to a snowman. Add them to the Christmas coloring pages and the snowman coloring pages.
The rest of the year, Iron Man holds a basket of decorated eggs for the Easter coloring pages, a heart balloon for Valentine's Day, and leans over a birthday cake with candles. That last one goes well with the happy birthday coloring pages for a superhero party.
Avengers pages for little kids and for older fans
Hulk on his boulder has big shapes and few small details, an easy start. Quick to color lists the Avengers pages that go fastest:
- Hulk Sitting on a Boulder
- Boy Sketching an Invention at a Workbench
Most sheets are busier than usual, because armor, shields and city backgrounds are full of small panels. Lots of detail sorts the grid so the most intricate heroes come first:
- Giant Armored Hero Stepping Over a Bridge
- Iron Man with an Easter Basket
- Captain America and Iron Man on a Rooftop
If a page is too detailed for a young child, let them color only the big areas, like Iron Man's red armor, and leave the small plates for a grown-up helper.
An Avengers coloring party
- Print one hero per child and let everyone choose their favorite.
- Put out red, gold, blue, green, purple and black: almost every Avenger is made of those colors.
- Ask each child to invent a superpower for their hero and write it at the bottom of the page.
- Tape all the heroes side by side on the wall to assemble the team.
Fans of other heroes can keep going with the Batman coloring pages and the LEGO coloring pages, where minifigures make great mini superheroes.
Printing your heroes
Each hero downloads as an A4 PDF drawn at 300 dpi, at no cost. The armor has fine lines, so print at full size on A4, and use fit to page on US Letter so the title letters stay on the sheet. For a whole party set, collect the heroes with Add to pack and print them in one go; the printing guide shows the settings for each browser.
